Amber Rose and Shane asked me to make them a rustic chocolate wedding cake with gold leaf, berries and garden flowers for their wedding in December last year. We decided to have two layers so that there would be plenty of cake for all their guests. Each tier had 6 layers of chocolate cake with rich chocolate butter-cream as a filling.
All the lovely fresh berries start to ripen in December – so we decided to use them as a garnish for the rustic chocolate wedding cake. They add such wonderful colour and flavour to dark chocolate cakes. Amber Rose and Shane had used wonderful big flowers, peonies, king proteas, pink proteas and delicate asparagus fern tumbled and fell down the front of their wedding table. So we carefully placed luscious large pink peonies and dark red roses from my garden all over the wedding cake. Lastly I dabbed gold leaf around the sides of the cake – just to add some more drama and texture to the picture.
The flowers on the tables sat on rustic pine logs so we placed the chocolate wedding on one as well. Then Sue Cameron, the florist, wrapped asparagus fern and love lies bleeding (a wonderful old fashioned flower) around and around the log.
Amber Rose and Shane loved their cake. They told me it was “just perfect” and that there was heaps left over for them all to eat the next day. I make my wedding cakes to order so that they can truly reflect the personality of my customers. Please contact me if I can help you with your wedding plans.
